The Gili islands - Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan - are 3 perfect islands just off the northwest coast of Lombok and to the east of Bali.
The 3 coral islands are fringed with white spakling sand, swaying coconut palms and clear turquoise waters teeming with colourful reef fish.
The islands are famous for their pristine waters, great diversity of marine life and excellent diving and snorkelling, as well as their laid back charm and easy way of life.
If you’d like a change from diving, snorkelling or sunbathing, why not try surfing, kayaking or horseriding? Or take a cidomo around the island, watch the sunset or catch a movie at the outdoor cinema. There’s plenty to do and see on Gili Trawangan.
Gili Trawangan offers a wide range of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, ranging from simple ‘nasi campur’ from a local warung to fine dining in high-class restaurants, and everything in between.
Nightlife continues until late into the night at the evening’s designated spot, or you can enjoy a quiet dinner and drink at one of the many beach-front restaurants. There is truly something for everyone on this beautiful island.
Traffic on all 3 Gili’s consists of cidomo (horse and cart), bicycle or walking. Cars and motorbikes are forbidden, making the Gili’s the perfect place to escape city life.
The local population on Gili Trawangan are mostly from mainland Lombok. They are 90% sasak, a Muslim people with a culture and language unique to Lombok. The people are very friendly and tolerant but please be sure to respect their culture and way of life.
